At Sprouting Chefs, we believe kids who grow and cook their own healthy foods are more likely to eat well. The Sprouting Chefs Cafeteria Service & Program provides the opportunities and resources for older teens in the Vancouver Lower Mainland area to learn the true value of food and its origins in a high school cafeteria setting by incorporating:
- A Student Hospitality Program
- Cafeteria service that uses local organic food supplier
- Lunch menu that is highlighted with seasonally inspired dishes
- A Catering Club within the school
Our Vision
To provide menu choices to the students, staff and faculty that is both healthy and delicious.
For students to be empowered by the skills learned in a hospitality program that propels them into the food and hospitality career of their choice
Our Mission
To provide a practical learning environment within the school cafeteria where students have the opportunity to explore the various possibilities of working with food and each other.
School Cafeteria Service
We are proud to partner with chefs who are qualified with their red seals who have experience in both restaurant and hotel kitchens. Our chefs are able to create menus that are locally inspired, healthy and best of all, great tasting. Using a farm to school model of operation, our chef ensures menus are seasonally inspired while supporting local growers. Recipes are analyzed by dieticians to ensure all health benefits are supported while our chef prepares food that appeal to every palate.
Student Hospitality Program
Our program facilitates an environment where learning what it takes to work in a restaurant can be both fun and a useful skill. Students who have completed this program will acquire applicable work skills, volunteer hours and the self confidence to apply for jobs in the hospitality sector. Learning from the chef in the cafeteria program gives students the opportunity to learn what it really takes to make it in the restaurant world.
Catering Club
The Sprouting Chefs Catering Club is an extracurricular activity involving students on a broad school level from grades 8 to 12. From graduation events to school fundraisers, students have the opportunity to shine by hosting, creating, cooking and serving memorable school events. Lead by the cafeteria chef, students gain valuable work skills and the chance to socialize with others in a unique way.
Additional services provided by the Catering Club include providing healthy meals and snacks to school teams practicing after school & participating in event tournaments. Fueling school athletes with healthy meals before games and practices ensures energy, enthusiasm and the proper mental state required in order to excel.
